Department for International Trade

For this project I was contracted through an agency to work as a UX Designer for UK Trade and Investment (now the Department for International Trade). The project was to build a campaign website in multiple languages to support an international marketing campaign for the department which aimed to increase direct investment from companies outside the UK. I was initially bought on to work on the Alpha phase of the project after another agency had completed the Discovery phase, but due to contract extensions I worked on the project for over 10 months, seeing it through Alpha, Beta, and live Beta. I also worked on the discover and alpha for an interactive tool to be imbedded in the site.

As the only dedicated designer on a multi disciplinary team (solutions architect/project lead, user researcher, up to 3 developers) I worked on:

  • Requirements gathering
  • Stakeholder interviews
  • Competitor analysis
  • Cultural research to identify traits and design patterns
  • Co-ordinated collaborative design sessions within the team
  • Consolidated research and produced user journeys
  • Created initial wireframes based on research
  • Helped define UI and visual design in conjunction with brand and team lead
  • Put together hi fidelity designs
  • Worked on usability testing script alongside user researcher
  • Conducted testing sessions with participants from China, Germany the US and India
  • Worked on further iterations of designs using feedback from testing, stakeholders and the team
